Last Fall I visited a Japanese temple to see a beautiful screen called Kumiko-zaiku. This traditional wooden screen is handcrafted and uses no nails. Narrow wood pieces flow to interweave the dense and open areas.
To represent this design with cloth I will cut long strips and sew them together with a sewing machine. May the maple leaf reflections help the viewer feel the change of seasons.

It looks perfect. What a wonderful interpretation Mikki.
This is so complex, yet somehow simple and quite beautiful. これはとても複雑ですが、どういうわけかシンプルでとても美しいです
This caught my eye immediately and I went right to it. Well done!
これはすぐに私の目に留まり、私はすぐにそれに行きました。素晴らしい!
Mikki, this is gorgeous, I love the delicate lattice work against the glowing orb. Well done!
Mikkiko, what a beautiful and fine structure your work has. I like the color contrast. The many sewing work is perfectly executed.
So beautiful and intricate, Mikiko. A softly quiet and peaceful resting place….
