This is my posting for the prompt “LINES”. I purposely sewed fabric together to create a “path” that your eye would follow, keeping in “line” as you meander through the piece. The rolled newspaper strips help you stay on the path while they allow you to explore the other directional possibilities. Much like the various paths we can follow in our lifetime.
In the left bottom of the piece I used string which I randomly free motion stitched onto a water soluble product then rinsed and applied to the background. Beads were added that I highlighted with acrylic paint.

I love your description, but the areas you reference are hard to see. I’d love to see details!
Your use of different materials is masterful, so many discoveries to be made here! Love your colour scheme.
Hi Al, I am getting texture, and that gorgeous grey marking on the fabric speaks to me, and I also need a close up of the string, so enticing. I really enjoyed the folded area over-stitched with big hand stitches, like little pockets in the ground.
I love the composition texture and use of unusual materials. Which part is the rolled up newspaper?
The long grey looking strips are rolled newparer
Welcome to Cloth in Common!! We’re glad to have you join us here. I’m getting a waterscape, bridge, sky, stones kind of vibe from your quilt, Al. I wish I could see some detail images . . . Beautiful, moody, mysterious work. Well done adding all the textural material! You’ve got my eye moving all around.
Taking the path forward, Al, you have shared a strategically beautiful walk through another piece of your Art… I love the addition of the rolled newspaper and the free motion stitching…Stunning!
Al, it seems like I’m looking into a forest when I see your quilt. In the distance I see tree trunks. I like the serene colors you used.
