Every time we make an art quilt we transform cloth or other materials into a design of our choosing. Sometimes the transformation is more radical than others. For example, I admire those who dye their own fabrics –  I don’t do that myself.

There is a sort of double transformation in that process. First taking white fabric and dying it, then again transforming those dyed pieces into the finished quilt.

What comes to my mind is a challenge I once participated in as a member of a quilt guild.

We were to each to bring in the ugliest material we had.

And then we had to choose from the material other brought and come up with a quilt.

That’s what I did for that challenge using tiny pieces of the very ugly fabrics, years ago.

Who is the wise person who once said there’s no ugly fabric. You just haven’t cut it into small enough pieces.

I don’t know what I’ll do this time. I’m still thinking about it!

アートキルトを作るたびに、布やその他の素材を選んだデザインに変えます。 場合によっては、他の変化よりも根本的な変化が起こることもあります。 たとえば、私は自分で生地を染める人を尊敬しますが、私自身は染めません。

そのプロセスでは、ある種の二重変換が行われます。 まず白い生地を取り出して染色し、次にそれらの染色した部分を再び完成したキルトに変えます。

私の頭に浮かんだのは、私がかつてキルトギルドのメンバーとして参加した挑戦です。

私たちはそれぞれが持っている最も醜い素材を持ち込むことになっていました。

そして、他の人が持ってきた素材の中から選んでキルトを考えなければなりませんでした。

醜い生地など存在しないとかつて言った賢明な人は誰ですか。 それは十分に小さく切っていないだけです。

それが、非常に醜い生地の小さな断片を使用して、その挑戦のために私がやったことです。

今回は何をするか分かりません。 まだ考え中です！
