I have fuzzy memories of my Grandma’s kitchen. But I do fondly remember my sister and I spending hours in her kitchen with her. Not necessarily cooking because she really didn’t enjoy cooking or baking. She was head nurse of a large hospital with her twin sister and they shared night duty together They ruled the docs actually. And all her energy went into her love of her career.

But when we spent time with her , she let us play in her cupboards. It was the best game in the world to play kitchen pulling out all the dried food stuffs and setting up tea for her. We made a huge mess and she was never bothered by the mess. She always helped us clean up. There was only one cupboard that was off limits and that one was a jumble of brightly colored dishes. We loved admiring it and couldn’t wait until we grew up and could use it.

Now I do have some of those dishes. And I use them. Only wish she was here to play kitchen with me and have a cup of hot tea with me.
