Around the same time as Martha’s Prompt was revealed early last month, I finished reading an interesting book, about the times we live in.
“Ways of Being. Animals, Plants, Machines: The search for a Planetary Intelligence.” by James Bridle.
Science is discovering, how, the more we look, the more we discover just how Connected we are.
Not just through our families or friends, also in our neighbourhoods and communities.
Since I became a quilter, I have made so many Connections and friends, firstly in our Abu Dhabi Quilting community, and then across the Globe. These friendships have enriched my life in more ways than I can count.
During the pandemic our little group of International Quilters in UAE became even more connected.
In lockdown we started to meet on Zoom. We shared lots of quilt challenges that helped us through the summer of 2020.
When we could meet in person again, we met in a beautiful light and open space in a nearby mall.
We began to meet weekly and continue to do so.
Our meetings have morphed and changed, from a very formal meeting, to an informal gathering. Ladies feel free to drop in and out of our gatherings. We share skills, news, and offer support to each.
The pandemic helped us to see how to Connect in new and different ways, that we perhaps wouldn’t have thought of before.
Our gatherings have improved and reinforced our friendships with each other, whether we are in or outside the UAE.
So nice to have an artist support group. And FUN!
Lovely button queens in your group!
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful post, Janine… I love your artwork, seeing your friends and their smiling faces, so beautiful, that resonate with all of us who have moved together through these past few years!
I love this, Janine! Both the human and Nature examples. One of my favorite books of all time is Plainsong by Kent Haruf. About creating families.
I enjoyed reading about how your connections have grown.
