In our welcome to Round 4 of our Cloth in Common art sharing, we agreed to the overall theme of CHANGE,
and as we moved into 4-1 with our new artworks shared the last few days of July 2023, we brought to our readers both beautiful and very complex Textile Art.

I wondered if Transformation was likely to be a part of our focus on our work during the next two years. We celebrate being artist friends from around the world, working in our own studios, and developing plans for the next steps as we move from each new Prompt to design play and finally, a finished piece of art worthy of sharing that will be on the way!

Defining transformation is simple: Our world of textile art is a vibrant and truly diverse realm, and our artists transform fabrics, fibers, and threads into captivating works of art! Each artist will have his/her own perspective on the art world that finds them part of this amazing cohort of designers and makers. 

Whether in cloth collections, with feathers and beads, or with an amazing focus on taking cloth and thread in hand and creating the most complex designs, our artists are consistent in developing and planning monthly, all the while dreaming of new and exciting ways to transform a prompt into their own ART! I call that TRANSFORMATION…

As we move from project to project, we represent the most exceptional emerging/established artists working with fiber as their medium for fine art expression. Many of our friends are in great groups of artists around the world, and they learn and grow together. We look to discovery, acquisition, and installation as we travel and visit the most wonderful Gallery Exhibitions around the world where possible. Their focused study is a partner in transformation.

An artist friend and mentor, Deborah Kruger, some years back reminded me: “Your most outstanding art requires a transformation of the materials so that the piece becomes a unique alchemy of ‘what it is made from’ combined with your vision.”
