Change the World 5-6

Right now there are 117-123 million displaced persons, world wide, from conflicts in Afghanistan, South Sudan, Lebanon, Sudan, Ukraine, and elsewhere. We hear mostly about Gaza, which has the highest internal displacement proportional to its population.

The current refugee crisis is the highest number in history, even more than displacement during and after WWII (40-60 Million persons).

I would love to think that the Biblical promise of peace, in Micah Chapter 4 was a realistic hope. 

I am doubtful, but I do think the verse is beautiful.  George Washington is well documented in reciting it to encourage his soldiers, and also to keep his own hope alive as he struggled through a very difficult war to lead his country to independence, and then serve another 8 years at its helm as President. Another thought for the 250 anniversary of the United States.

This piece is constructed using raw edge applique, piecing, trapunto work, and couching.

現在、アフガニスタン、南スーダン、レバノン、スーダン、ウクライナなど、世界各地の紛争により、1億1700万～1億2300万人の人々が避難生活を強いられています。中でも、人口比で国内避難民が最も多いガザ地区のことはよく耳にします。

現在の難民危機は、第二次世界大戦中および戦後の避難民数（4000万～6000万人）をも上回り、史上最多となっています。

ミカ書4章にある平和の約束が、現実的な希望であったと信じたいものです。正直なところ、懐疑的ではありますが、この聖句は実に美しいと思います。ジョージ・ワシントンは、兵士たちを鼓舞するため、そして自らの希望を保つために、この聖句を朗読していたことがよく知られています。彼は困難な戦争を乗り越え、祖国を独立へと導き、その後8年間大統領として国を率いました。これは、アメリカ合衆国建国250周年を記念するもう一つの考察です。

この作品は、切りっぱなしのアップリケ、パッチワーク、トラプント、コーシングといった技法を用いて制作されています。
