In the blog post of June 30th, I wrote about an event from my childhood.

Now, 60 years later, I am going to use this story.

If I could have glued the broken bowl back then with gold paint, I certainly would have.

Whether my parents and grandparents would have appreciated that, I do not know.

Kintsugi is a Japanese art form in which broken ceramics become solid

gold-colored lacquer.

We throw away broken ceramics. By means of a repair using paste gold paint,

you emphasize the fact that it is broken. The charm of repairing becomes illegal.

In this way, reuse is not only repair but also an enhancement of the object.

I dyed a background fabric. Then I used a beautiful fabric from a dear deceased

friend for the bowl. The gold paint feels like extra glue for our friendship.

All in all, a cherished memory of “ broken bowl beautiful ”.
