As quilters, we often cut out only our favorite parts of a fabric and throw the rest into the wastebasket. I used to save those leftovers as well, but they kept accumulating endlessly.
In the past, piecing together such small scraps was considered the very essence of patchwork. Today, however, fabric is abundant and easily available.
So I deliberately looked into the wastebasket, pulled out leftover pieces, ribbons, and unfinished patterns, and brought them together once more. I imagined people from a bygone era—when everything was carefully managed—and set them to work within this piece.
Watching them labor with a sense of joy reminds me that even without convenient or expensive materials, it is still possible to find richness and pleasure in everyday life.

Those lovely little ladies! I can just fit myself in there with them. Both whimsical, clever, and so artistic! You rock!
I like the whimsy in this quilt. The little quilters are just going about their business. It seems they are satisfied with what they find, and are turning castoffs into a thing of beauty. I can imagine happy little bluebirds singing as these ladies work.
Micky, this quilt is wonderful in so many ways!! All the little figures lead our eyes around the busy, yet calm background. Your black and gray stitching lines tie everything together, while the colors help to tell the story! Brilliant!!!
