Our group, Cloth in Common, consists of fiber artists from around the world, so there is an enormous amount of space between our members. Several of us have never met in person. We meet from our own homes through the wonders of technology. While we are not a chatty group, we do get to know one another through our ongoing works and the stories we tell about them. Because we span the globe, it is challenging for us to exhibit our work in the same physical space. This makes our precious website and blog so valuable in sharing our work and thoughts with others. We sincerely appreciate each of our followers, and enjoy hearing from you regarding the creative work that we share here.

We recently had an opportunity to show our quilts about the topic ‘Celebration’ along with a solo exhibition of our member Mikiko Takase in Tokyo, Japan! Another member of CIC, Mijoo Jin from Korea, was able to attend the exhibit and spend time with Mikiko. This is rare and wonderful.

We treasure the friendships that we’ve formed as a result of this group. In a world that is so divided, it is refreshing to enjoy such strong international connections. These relationships help to make the actual miles between our members seem less daunting. As I work on my quilt for the theme ‘The Space Between’, I am considering how close we are in our hearts.

Tell us what you think.
