People come and go in your life. Sometimes they stay for a long time, and sometimes
it feels as though they have always been there.
When you are young, you meet many people. You often choose for yourself who
walks a part of life’s journey with you. It is a constant coming and going.

But sometimes, you instantly click with someone. It feels as if
you already know each other from a past life.
That is how it was when I met Lummie. We marveled at the fact that
we were only just getting to know each other, despite living
only 4 kilometers apart and sharing the same hobby.
The friendship that followed was intense. We were on the same wavelength.
The only difference was that Lummie
was constantly battling illness. I visited her often. She wanted
nothing more than to talk about quilting, rather than her illnesses.
As good friends, we understood each other intuitively.

But eventually, after a long struggle, her illness claimed her life.
With a heavy heart, I said goodbye in a special way.
Much of her material came to me, and this quilt was created
partly from those supplies: fabric she had dyed, her batting and
backing—even the thread is partly hers.
I deliberately chose a fading hydrangea blossom. It represents
transience, yet also a sense of connection—the enduring
bonds between us. In short, an ode to a dear friend.
