I have a special drawer of wonderful fabrics that are much too nice to cut into.  Fabrics from various countries, silks, velvets, fabric gifts, expensive laces, etc.  When we were given the theme of Celebration, I chose to celebrate some of these fiber pieces by using them finally!

!  I also was excited to use some specialty fabrics that I recently purchased on a surprise visit to MOOD fabrics in NYC!  I pulled some colors that I thought might play nicely together and began designing with them.

.  These fabrics were a delight to work with – plenty of sparkle, sheen, and texture.  Knowing that I would be using the blue dotted tulle and that great purple shibori, a circular theme began to emerge.  I had to be careful not to spiral into chaos by adding too many variations!

Some of these fabrics were gifts from Cloth in Common members – thank you so dearly – Micky, Christie, and Catherine.  I am enormously pleased that I had the courage to open that drawer and begin to employ and extol the beauty of these fibers.

活用し、称える 私には、あまりに素敵すぎてハサミを入れるのがもったいないと感じる、素晴らしい布地ばかりを集めた特別な引き出しがあります。様々な国の布地、シルク、ベルベット、贈り物としていただいた布、高価なレースなどが収められています。今回「Celebration（祝祭）」というテーマが与えられたとき、私はこれらの布たちを「ついに実際に使うこと」をもって、その存在を称え、祝うことに決めました！ また、先日ニューヨークの「MOOD Fabrics」へふらりと立ち寄った際に購入した、とっておきの布地を使えることにも胸を躍らせました。相性が良さそうな色合いの布をいくつか選び出し、それらを組み合わせてデザインを練り始めました。どの布も、作業していて心から楽しいものばかりでした。きらめき、光沢、そして豊かな質感が溢れています。青い水玉模様のチュールと、あの素晴らしい紫色の絞り染めの布を使うと決めたときから、作品全体に「円（サークル）」を基調としたテーマが浮かび上がってきました。あまりに多くの要素を詰め込みすぎて、デザインが混沌としたスパイラルに陥ってしまわないよう、細心の注意を払う必要がありました！ これらの布地の中には、「Cloth in Common」のメンバーであるMicky、Christie、Catherineからいただいた贈り物も含まれています。本当に心から感謝しています。あの特別な引き出しを開ける勇気を持ち、そこに眠っていた布たちの美しさを「活用し、称える」という一歩を踏み出せたことを、私はこの上なく嬉しく思っています。 活用し、称える 41.75インチ × 29.75インチ 素材：コットン、シルク、レース、ベルベット、チュール、ビーズ刺繍、フェルト、刺繍糸 技法：手縫いアップリケ、手縫いキルティング
