Here’s my first blog in Cloth in Common.

Exciting!!

The theme for this period is Faces. Every person is unique and every face is different. With about 7 billion people on earth that fact is very special. As Eunhee says, everyone has a different facial expression. That’s a time recording. From one emotion to the next. From happy to seriousness and everything in between. People and faces are changing. From baby to elderly person. There’s a whole life in between. That shows that everyone is only a small part of the world. Unique in its shape! To capture this, many celebrities were portrayed in the past and present.

One of the most famous portraits is Leonardo da Vinci’s painting the Mona Lisa.

But also the self-portraits of artists such as van Gogh and Rembrandt give a beautiful time frame. That used to be very different than it is now. Nowadays, everything goes digital. Countless photos are taken of everyone. Every moment is recorded. Sometimes too much, I guess. What do we do with all that material? Where is it when we’re gone?

Enough to think about, for instance: What aspect will I incorporate into a quilt? You’ll see at the end of July.

  1. Ahh, the mystery is the search for inspiration we long for and the fact that every artist is taking a path that brings FACES into play is all about what they see, dream and feel… can’t wait for the reveal.

Tell us what you think.
