This prompt, Heritage, made me think of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These places are unique landmarks which have cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance. As of today, there are a total of 1,154 World Heritage Sites

As I mentioned in a previous post, the Ellora Caves near Aurangabad, India were the closest thing I had to a bucket list of places to see before I kick the bucket. (For our non-English speakers, a “bucket list” is a list of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime, and “kick the bucket” means to die). After visiting Ellora, I knew I would one day memorialize my trip with a quilt. So, for my heritage quilt I chose to depict the Kailasa Temple, one of the 34 temples in the Ellora Cave complex.

Like most of my quilts for this round of Cloth in Common prompts, this piece is not an exact representation of the place, but more of a collection of memories created in my symbographic style.

  1. Deb, I didn’t realize there are 1154 pieces that are on the Unesco World Heritage List. Funny that we both chose a small piece. So different, but also so beautiful!

  2. Thanks for taking us on the wonderful visit to the Kailasa Temple, Deb…I love the beautiful and complex design work you have shared with us – and as always, a hugely exciting symbolic and most graphic design!

Tell us what you think.
