The prompt of CONNECTIONS gives me a lot of food for thought. Initially I was thinking of structural connections for buildings especially in Christchurch where post our major earthquakes all buildings were reinforced with cross like strengthening steel poles. These poles connecting to the ceilings or upper floors provided strength to the buildings and make you feel safe!

Then last year my youngest son got married to his American girlfriend in a beautiful place called Paradise out past Glenorchy in the south of our country amongst the mountains. Why connections? Family travelled from all around the country and from the United States to be part of the wedding because they were either connected to the bride or groom or both!

Then there is history. While staying in Oamaru for work I stayed at a place called Poshtel. This hotel has an amazing array of memorabilia from all sorts of sports and activities. The photo is a range of early cricket bats so I wondered who used them and when they were used? I enjoyed how they were displayed to reflect a point in time.

Another type of connection was governor Greys Mansion at Kawau Island just north of Auckland. The only way to connect with this beautiful spot is via boat! He purchased the property in 1862 and added to it. All supplies were shipped across to the island plus people to the do the work. So how we travel is how we connect with others?

What will I choose or will I do something completely different? Wait for this reveal and others next week. I’m sure there will be plenty of interpretations on this theme.
