Karol Kusmaul

Considering Light and Structure this time, I thought I would look through my past work that is related to these themes.  I’ve already decided the focus of my piece, which will be revealed at the end of March, but I’ll save that as a surprise until then.  My first thought was of another Cloth in Common quilt I made for our Ecosystems prompt.

Emerge

I was delighted with the way the morning sun shone through the leaves in this garden plant.  Two other plant compositions had an emphasis on light and shadow:

Bloomers
Waterside

Some other of my landscapes that fit this category are:

Lighting the Way
Polka Dot Sky
Breezy

And of course the beach scenes:

Jacque D.
Beach

I even made a space landscape which is strongly dependent on light and shadow:

Colonel James Irwin

Several of my portraits focus on light and form, especially these:

Filling Up
Flirting
St Spouse of Perpetual Perfection
Sliders

And this one from a photo taken in harsh lighting for a jail mugshot:

Mugshot

Not really a portrait, but this image for our Mask prompt seems lit from within:

Into Your Soul

Even a few of the still life pieces have a nice light quality:

Still
Tea Time

And finally, my quilt representing our international connections by the light of our computer screens:

Coming Together

  1. I really feel like I have gotten to know your artwork here today, personally, Karol. I have looked into your designs here, all reflective of the light and joy in so much of your art. Thank you so much, and can’t wat for our March reveal.

Tell us what you think.
