Good day to all my Cloth in Common colleagues, participants and subscribers.

Welcome to 2026 and I hope we all look forward to a fresh new year and the unknown possibilities it may bring.   Whilst I am not so naive as to expect it will all be world peace, an end to global warming and armfuls of sweet-smelling roses for all, I cannot help but try to look on the positive side, knowing there are many well-intentioned, intelligent, and kind people out there.  So, here’s to a fabulous 2026.

In considering the possibilities for Round 5 Prompt 5, I was looking for a topic that would create many opportunities for each of us to move in different directions and have settled on Celebration as the prompt.  It relates to each aspect of our Create, Inspire, Connect theme and provides possibilities around happy, personal events, triumph in sporting events (we Aussies just beat the poms in the latest cricket series).  It could be a national commemoration, solemn memorial day, a tribute or religious event (of any brand).  You could also look at graduations, anniversaries, or achieving goals.  This prompt also leaves open the choice of the artist to depict or represent sad or difficult events.

There are probably many interpretations all your clever artistic brains will be inspired to create, and I look forward to the results to be presented here at the end of March 2026.

The picture shows part of a quilted headboard I made in 2019 which depicted my impression of the Sydney Opera House on New Years Eve during the fireworks event.

My best wishes to all for 2026 and I look forward to 5-5 CELEBRATION.

  1. Oh lovely! I was fortunate enough to get to see the Opera House in person when I visited the East Coast of Australia last summer after my daughter graduated from university. it was a celebration trip for her, finishing her marine biology degree, and we both wanted to see the Great Barrier Reef. The Opera House did not disappoint! It is an absolutely stunning structure, and I only wish I could’ve gotten to see it from the inside as well. I was so thrilled to see that the cockatoos that flooded my balcony every morning and evening in Airlie Beach were also around, though in fewer numbers, in that area of Sydney.

I already have an apropos, though slightly unorthodox angle on this theme already. It is a great one and I look forward to seeing what everybody takes from it.

    1. I love unorthodox! and ecourage you to do anything that is different, unusual, unexpected, eccentric or only vaguely related to the topic. Oh, the diversity of it all!!!

  2. Last January, I experienced something truly special: I became a grandmother. With the birth of my grandson, our entire family has been filled with joy and happiness. For this reason, the theme you suggested, “Celebration,” feels like a meaningful project to me.

    1. Oh how wonderful. Enjoy your grandson and all the joy and possibilities this exciting event brings to your life.
