Recently, a Korean art quilter passed away. She was one of the founding members of the Korea Art Quilt Association and led an art quilt study group for many years. Being part of this group was an invaluable experience for me. Together, we explored and shared a wide range of quilting techniques, learned from one another, and found inspiration in each other’s work.

I am saddened that she is no longer with us. As a tribute to her memory, I created this quilt as a homage to one of her final works. She had made a serene and elegant black-and-white piece using the Simple Cathedral Window technique. In my interpretation, I chose green as the dominant color, in loving memory of her fondness for this color.

The luminous yet deep shades of green evoke the vitality of all living things and the intimate, mysterious sanctuaries they call home. The circular forms suggest the continuous cycle of life, while also evoking our own existence, each circle seeming to hold countless “stories” within. Together, they become a quiet meditation on life, memory, and the enduring connections we leave behind.
