Time is sometimes cruel. While making this quilt I tripped over some uneven footpath and broke my ankle and wrist. Luckily I had finished (I thought) this quilt as I was about to leave for a trip to Japan. So now I had more time to finish the quilt but not the ability to to it. I have some more ideas to work on and they may happen when I am able or maybe I will change my mind again

I took this photo in Edinburgh in Scotland and the first thing I thought of when I saw it was the worn steps and how many thousand or even tens of thousand feet had walked up and down these stone steps over hundreds of years.

I played around in Photoshop to break the image down into a more graphic representation. There are always so many options and variations

Before I made my full size version I tested out my new Silhouette Cameo cutter and made this small (6″x8″) version for the SAQA Spotlight auction.

Three colours of hand dyed fabric were used to create the shapes. The image was printed out to size and then the fused (with Mistyfuse) fabrics were then cut out. I painted a piece of silk organza which I laid over the full size image to place the pieces and then fused that to the background piece.

The pieces were then stitched down in place on my Bernina Q20.. Not sure if it is finished yet but here it is for now,
