One of my long-held dreams was to travel with my husband to see my work exhibited in an overseas quilt exhibition – to experience the exhibition together and turn it into a journey. That dream came true last year, and this piece was created to commemorate that joyful experience. The predominance of blue reflects not only the color of the selected work but also the way blue has always invited me to dream.

In 2024, I created a work titled ‘The Bond of Blue Flowers’, which was honored with selection for SAQA’s Global Exhibition, Color in Context – Blue. The exhibition premiered in Saint-Marie-aux-Mines, France, during EPM and will continue to travel to venues around the world over the next three years.

Last September, my husband and I traveled to France, visiting Paris and the Alsace region, and made our way to Saint-Marie-aux-Mines to see my work on display – truly a dream come true.

The multicolored stripes (saekdong in Korean) are fabrics traditionally used in the making of Korean hanbok. In Korea, saekdong hanbok are most often worn by children during holidays and joyful celebrations. Because the experience was filled with pure happiness – like a long-cherished childhood wish finally realized, both tender and exhilarating – I filled the spaces both these vibrant stripes and with the blue polygons throughout the piece.
