In 2023 I walked a pilgrimage route. It was a journey of 300 kilometers and I took 18 days for it. The route started in Porto (Portugal) and ended in Santiago de Compostela (Spain).

During this route, I walked past an abandoned house one morning. The blue flowers I saw then made a big impression on me. It seemed as if they were shouting, look at me being beautiful.

This was an annual climber, Ipomoea purpurea, which is also called morning glory in English. These beautiful flowers open new flower buds every morning. These flowers only bloom for a day. Due to the frequent growth, new blue flowers appear every day. This is a sign that nature always takes over. Once humans have left, things happen even faster.

Whether this will be inspiration for my contribution remains a secret for now.

  1. Oh, I love abandoned buildings and towns! I make a point of looking from them before every trip I take, and fortunately, haven’t been arrested for trespassing yet. This color is arresting and begs for closer inspection. My husband and I had discussed making that walk. If you choose this as your subject matter, I look forward to seeing you capture that beautiful color in fabric.
