A bridge is a physical structure that connects two distant places, yet metaphorically it serves as a mediator linking abstract relationships. In much the same way, I believe that ‘books’ can play the role of connectors with remarkable power.

Books join the past with the present, bringing together different cultures, generations, regions, and people with diverse thoughts and perspectives.

Through the indirect experience of reading, we can dissolve prejudice and misunderstanding, share emotions, and cultivate empathy and understanding – thus linking individuals who might otherwise remain as isolated islands.

In this sense, books open the way for us to experience universal emotions – joy, sorrow, pain, wonder, passion, desire, regret, frustration, hope, and happiness – and to reach out with warmth to others. They also allow us to encounter our innermost selves more deeply, revealing a truer connection with who we are.

  1. I adore that you see books as bridges. Of course they are, but that thought hadn’t occurred to me beforis is a wonderful piece, and the fact that you pulled the written words out of the book’s pages and splashed them across the quilt is perfection! I love typography in art. Bravo!

    1. Christie, Thank you so much! I’m happy that the idea of books as bridges resonated with you. I also love how words themselves can become visual elements – typography really does bring another layer of meaning to art. Have a wonderful weekend!
