With a background in Chomskyan linguistics, I spent many years teaching at a
university in Seoul. After retiring, I was able to devote myself more fully to modern
and art quilting – what began as a hobby has become the heart of my creative life.
I think, Chomsky’s search for the universal human capacity for language positions him
as a rationalist, a modernist, and a thinker rooted in reason. I recognize how deeply my
academic training has shaped my way of thinking – especially the impulse to look
beneath surface appearances and to seek the universal qualities and emotions that
connect us as human beings. At the same time, I strive to move beyond those
boundaries, creating work that expresses my individuality and humanity in a freer, more
intuitive way. I am drawn to themes of inner energy, freedom, movement, and the
dynamic transformation of both myself and the world around me. Though my husband
often says I’m “Westernized,” I find myself continually returning to the Eastern and
Korean ways of thinking and aesthetics that lie at the core of who I am.
Inspiration for my work arises from daily life – from books, music, travel, and
encounters with others. These experiences continually fuel my imagination and shape the
direction of my art.
As a member of Cloth in Common, it is a privilege to engage with such gifted artists.
Each shared theme would challenge me to reflect more deeply and allows my work to
grow in unexpected ways.
Currently, I serve as the SAQA Korea Regional Representative. I am a lifetime member
of the Korea Quilt Association, a member of the Corea Art Quilt Association, and
actively participate in several other quilting groups in Korea. I exhibit regularly and
deeply value the creative exchange that comes with being part of such vibrant
communities
