I NEARLY MISSED THE MAGIC.  It was 2016 in Philadelphia.  I was there for a SAQA (Studio Art Quilt Associates) annual conference.  We were waiting for buses to come and take us to the Wayne Art Center to see an Art quilt exhibit.  It was raining.  The buses never came.  Our choices were: go back to your room, hitch a ride with one of the local artists, or walk to the train station and catch a train.  Several of us went for the train option. 

Here are the intrepid artists who managed to find a guide to the correct train, then navigated a walk to the Art Center.  The exhibit was Art Quilt Elements 2016, and it was excellent.  Getting to see the work in this show was magical in itself, but there was MORE!  I wandered alone into an open, empty, quiet classroom.

There were chairs, stools, easels, still life materials, busts, books, and spotlights in the room.  I felt a spirit in the air of that space.  I experienced an overwhelming feeling of potential there. 

After a 32 year career as an art teacher, being in this room  made me yearn to get back into an art classroom as a student.  I had no idea at the time, but a few years later, I followed that dream and began work on a master’s degree in painting through Savannah College of Art and Design.  And even though I did the work in my home studio in Florida, not in the classrooms on the ground in Savannah, I still sensed that magical feeling in my online classes.

ただの部屋以上のもの 私は危うくその魔法を見逃すところでした。2016年、フィラデルフィアでの出来事です。私はSAQA（Studio Art Quilt Associates）の年次会議に出席していました。ウェイン・アートセンターで開催されているアートキルト展を見に行くために、バスを待っていました。雨が降っていました。バスは一向に来ませんでした。選択肢は、部屋に戻る、地元のアーティストの車に乗せてもらう、あるいは駅まで歩いて電車に乗る、の3つでした。私たちは何人かで電車を選ぶことにしました。 ここに、正しい電車への道案内を見つけ、アートセンターまで歩いてたどり着いた勇敢なアーティストたちがいます。展示会は「Art Quilt Elements 2016」で、素晴らしいものでした。この展覧会の作品を見ることができただけでも魔法のような体験でしたが、それだけではありませんでした！私は一人で、広々とした静かな空っぽの教室に足を踏み入れました。そこには椅子、スツール、イーゼル、静物画の素材、胸像、本、そしてスポットライトがありました。その空間に、ある種の精神を感じました。そこで、圧倒的な可能性を感じたのです。 32年間美術教師として働いてきた私にとって、この部屋にいることで、生徒として再び美術教室に戻りたいという強い思いが湧き上がりました。当時、私は知る由もありませんでしたが、数年後、私はその夢を追いかけ、サバンナ芸術デザイン大学で絵画の修士号取得を目指して学び始めました。フロリダの自宅スタジオで制作活動を行い、サバンナのキャンパスの教室で学んだわけではありませんでしたが、オンライン授業でも、あの魔法のような感覚を感じることができました。 好奇心、気まぐれ、願い、そして夢を追いかけましょう。 ただの部屋以上のもの 39.5インチ×39.75インチ 市販およびリサイクル生地、糸、シアー生地、フェルト、ヴィンテージキルト、刺繍糸 切りっぱなしの手縫いアップリケ、手縫いキルティング、刺繍
