All my life I have been fascinated by flowers and plants. Yet it is amazing that you are touched every time. The beauty of flowers is inexhaustible.

During my pilgrimage from Porto to Santiago de Compostela it happened again. The walk makes all your senses open. I can still conjure up the smell of “mint”.

One morning I passed this abandoned house. The blue flowers of the “morning glory” Ipomoea purpurea were so beautiful in color. The amount of flowers was overwhelming. What a beauty!

Nature takes back

How strong is nature? People are increasingly taking possession of nature, by expanding our villages and cities. But when these houses are abandoned again, nature seizes the opportunity to return. That’s how flexible nature is, plants are indestructible and extremely strong, over the centuries.

So take your photos. Inspiration for new quilting. With this prompt I had the opportunity to work it out. My view is directed from the inside out.

  1. Elfriede, the morning glories in your piece have blossomed so beautifully. Morning glories are also commonly seen in Korea, and I’ve always loved flowers like these – delicate yet strong, almost like wildflowers, carrying a sense of untamed beauty.
