The Piece that I have made for this prompt is entirely different from my original idea
I returned to the idea of how in nature creatures, animals, plants, trees, mushrooms etc. -all build bridges often unseen by humans
I thought how Gardens quickly become overgrown when left untended
I thought of the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster, where wildlife has flourished, while human habitation remains sparse.
Remembering Angkor Wat in Cambodia, where I’ve had the privilege to visit, and to see massive trees growing through the ruins of a once amazing old city and to witness the quiet force of nature.

Materials: Commercial cotton and an old tablecloth of Mum’s were the beginning, followed by a beautiful piece of eco- printed cloth with Oak leaves
These shapes are accentuated by eco dyed and printed silk pieces found in my stash where the plant shapes revealed themselves under my scissors!
The marks in the background were made by writing with a water-soluble pen; then spraying with water the letters to become obscured

Soft and subtle but commanding as well. Love the beautiful eco dyed silks echoing and supporting the growth of nature. Beautiful!
This is a fascinating confluence of techniques, and they resonate so well with one another!
Such a beautiful blending of traditional patchwork and art, as well as the various distinct layers used. Marvelous end result! And you were courageous to write with ink and bleed the letters with sprayed water. Lovely and mysterious effect, Janine.
