When I woke up to an obviously smoke sky in Southeastern Pennsylvania, far from the raging fires in Oregon, I connected with that feeling of living through a dramatic moment.

I stuck with my first inspiration – the “world that has been lost” is a world that doesn’t burn.

At an art fair a woman visited my display and started to interest me in rug hooking. She showed me pictures of incredible color variance – more subtle that I could have achieved with other art quilting methods. I decided to try combining rug hooking and raw edge applique for this piece.

I went to YouTube to learn how to do it!

It took some false starts, intervals during which I used an embroidery technique to replicate the look of rug hooking but finally I got a hook that I liked, and started to properly rug hook.  I also combined needle felting, which went a lot faster!

By using all of these methods: embroidery, rug hooking, raw edge applique and needle felting, I ended up creating the large sky and sun area.

There you have it!  Smoky Sky in the Morning, World Take Warning. The title of course comes from the old weather predictor “Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning.”

アートフェアで女性が私のディスプレイを訪れ、ラグフッキングに興味を持ち始めました。彼女は私に信じられないほどの色の変化の写真を見せてくれました-私が他のアートキルティング方法で達成できたよりも微妙です。この作品では、ラグフッキングと生のエッジアップリケを組み合わせてみることにしました。

いくつかの誤ったスタート、刺繡技法を使用してラグフックの外観を再現する間隔が必要でしたが、最終的に私は好きなフックを手に入れ、適切にラグフックを始めました。また、針のフェルトを組み合わせたので、はるかに速くなりました！

刺繡、ラグフッキング、生のエッジアップリケ、ニードルフェルトのすべての方法を使用することで、私は大きな空と太陽の領域を作成することになりました。

あります！朝の煙のような空、世界は警告を発します。もちろん、タイトルは昔の天気予報「朝焼け、船乗りが警告を発する」に由来しています。
