My corner of the world received a record amount of rainfall this year.

While we were inconvenienced by cancelled events and some flooding, I was more pained by the draught and wildfires in other areas of the globe. I paid attention when the Elbe River in Eastern Europe ran dry.  We had cruised it earlier in the year before a catastrophic draught hit central and northern Europe.

About 12 massive “hunger stones” near Decin, Czech Republic, were uncovered by the low water, revealing engraved dates as early as 1616 – previous years of historic low water. And the stones revealed the chilling inscription in German, “When you see me, cry.”

I’m sure plenty of detritus from human lives was also uncovered by the low water. My quilt memorializes the loss and pain of so many in this year of climatic catastrophe.

今年は世界の隅々まで記録的な降雨量を記録しました。 私たちはキャンセルされた出来事や洪水によって不便でしたが、私は地球の他の地域の草稿や山火事に苦しんでいました。 東ヨーロッパのエルベ川が乾いたときに私は注意を払った。 我々は昨年中にヨーロッパを巡って巡航し、中央ヨーロッパと北ヨーロッパを襲った大惨事が起きた。
チェコ共和国のデシン近郊にある約12の巨大な「飢えた石」が、低水分によって暴露され、過去1616年の彫刻された日付を示しています。 そして、石は、ドイツ語で「あなたが私を見ると、泣き叫ぶ」という冷たい碑文を明らかにした。
私は人間の生活からのたくさんの粉塵も、低水でも明らかになったと確信しています。 私のキルトは、気候的な死別の今年の多くの人々の喪失と痛みを記念しています。
