Catherine McDonald

Christchurch, New Zealand

Catherine comes from Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand and has been a textile artist for 30+years. She is heavily into surface design and creating original fabrics for her works and for sale. Catherine has taught both surface design and specific projects both in New Zealand and Canada.

She is also an accountant and has been heavily involved in Harness Racing and Thoroughbred racing throughout her life. With this and 3 older brothers and two sons, she finds her textile work is of a masculine nature rather than pretty.  She likes to convey a deeper meaning in her quilts and feels the stitching adds a crucial layer to the overall piece.

However she loves the companionship she gets from belonging to her local and national groups and enjoys quilting retreats and her weekly stitching group which give her the connection back to the feminine side!

She is a life member of both her local club, Christchurch Quilters,  and Aotearoa Quilters National Association of New Zealand.
