With a new round beginning for Cloth in Common based on an overarching theme of CHANGE its time for me to literally have a “change of pace” which is indeed the first challenge prompt. I am trying to work out what I will personally base this series on (time is running out for the first reveal!) however I can tell you that I have worked out a format of sizes! I have already designed 12 set sizes (2 of each size) and picked my autumny colours as a base for the whole project.

My reasoning for doing this is to get more organised by having backings and battings ready for the whole 12 pieces. This means that part is ready to go when I finish the quilt top. By doing this it should make it easier to fit each piece into my busy life style at certain times of the year.

In writing this I think my overarching theme may just be my life! – how it has evolved over the years, what interests have changed and what hasn’t, the loss of my parents, ageing, becoming a grand parent, being a woman who now stands up for herself a lot more. The possibilities are endless!

Instead of being tired and thinking about how I need to get moving, I’m going to reflect on my life and what I have achieved to date, be proud of who I am and what the future holds for me. I think this round is going to be a lot of fun to do!

  1. I think this will be an exciting round. This year holds big changes for me, too. For the first time in 4 years I’m looking forward to just watching and commenting.

  2. Same. Long time follower, first time commenter here. I am struck by the resonance with my life, too. What a great idea to settle on sizes and a color palette, for practical reasons. Great strategy that I will consider as I look to a busy year ahead. Morethanclothincommon!

  3. Catherine, you have touched every piece of my life with your words here. My similar plans and thoughts seem to translate easily into our next Round along with yours. I am very excited that you have shared your focus on the new possibilities as you work on the 12 pieces for Round Four!
