It is time for Cloth in Common members to decide on an overarching theme for the next two-year round of the group, which starts on June 1^st.  We will be brainstorming and sharing ideas, then coming to a consensus, which we’ll announce on this blog. 

Our current theme for April/May is ‘Connections’.  I find this interesting because ‘Connection’ is one of the big themes I have been thinking about for the next round.  I brainstormed what we could consider as our bimonthly themes if ‘Connection’ is our overall theme. 

Neighbors came to mind.  Then maps, whose roads, highways, rivers, and mountains connect us to other places.  Oh, and bridges connect landforms to one another over waterways.

Windows connect us to the outside or indoors.  We have historical connections.  There are many network connections in our lives today.  We are connected to others who share our passions.  I will soon be reconnecting (and making new connections) with artists at a conference in Toronto.

Many of us have close connections to our relatives, or they may be long-distance connections.  We connect with others whenever we hold meetings of any sort.  The contact we have with people gives us connection to them, wherever we may be. We also connect with animals.

I’ll be excited to see at the end of May what each of our artists decides on to illustrate this theme. I’m working on a piece whose connections have challenged me, but I didn’t give up, and I now have a complete quilt top.  The machine quilting is proving to also be a challenge, but I still have plenty of time to conquer that.
